Room Parent Meetings:
Monday, October 3, 2012 (HTS)
Monday, March 5, 2012 (PVS)
Room Parent Responsibilities:
PTA meetings: Attend PTA meetings, especially on October 3, 2011 (review of Room Parent guidelines) and March 5, 2012 (review of end-of-year events).
Classroom parties: Coordinate classroom parties, including organization of food/drink donations and items for a craft project (if applicable). Room Parents do not necessarily need to attend every party, can recruit other classroom parents to attend if needed.
Field trips: Room parents are often asked to accompany the classroom on some field trips and may be asked to recruit other classroom parents if needed.
Teacher Appreciation: Coordinate a Teacher Appreciation gift for your classroom teacher to celebrate Teacher Appreciation Day (May 8, 2012). This gift should be something "handmade" by the students and can be anything from a class picture with student messages or a scrapbook of mementos from throughout the year. (examples of gift ideas will be provided on this website prior to Teacher Appreciation Day).
Spring Basket Auction: Collect donated items for the classroom basket and organize in a basket/container to be auctioned off at the PTA Basket Auction in the spring. Normally 2-3 classrooms share in a basket so there are 4-6 parents helping.
Track and Field Days/Class Picnics: Room parents are usually expected to accompany their class during Track and Field Day. The Phys. Ed. teachers will also ask the Room Parents to help solicit volunteers from the classroom to run the various activities. Class picnics are held on the same day as Track and Field Day. The PTA provides pizza, juice, plates, napkins and chips, but Room Parents may want to solicit additional healthy snacks and/or dessert from their classroom volunteers.
